After 5 years rocking it in the UK my little bro has finally returned to the home shores of New Zealand. I've had a great 12 months or so of getting to know him better and hopefully becoming closer. Much love bro, heres a little song to welcome you back to Aotearoa...

Environmental issues suffer from lack of political will. They take place on a timescale longer than the political cycle.
Harsh reality time...
"The diversity of genes, species and ecosystems continues to decline, as the pressures on biodiversity remain constant or increase in intensity mainly as a result of human actions."
Get involved at a local level, and help turn this and similar atrocities around!

Great sharing site for using technology to tackle environmental issues
Sony and WWF have teamed up in creating this social site, where users can share ideas on how to help the environment using technology. Its great to see some bigger corporations getting behind initiatives like this!

Love mix of razor sharp wit and deep biting satire that is the Onion
"Citing a desire to gain influence in Washington, the American people confirmed Friday that they have hired high-powered D.C. lobbyist Jack Weldon of the firm Patton Boggs to help advance their agenda in Congress."
Sometimes satire imitates life... oh wait, thats all of the time...
One in five Americans believe that President Obama is a Cactus.

Incredible - Images of the Aurora... ON SATURN!
Courtesy of the ever delightful neatorama.com: Images captured by NASA's Cassini. these clouds were photographed in infared and shoot up over 1000km into Saturn's outer atmosphere. Stunning.
Some hope in the emissions debate emerges.
It might all seem like doom and gloom, but a recent study indicated that industrialised countries could see emissions fall as a result of the ageing population, however population shifts in developing countries could see an even bigger increase. the lesson - the west needs to help developing nations manage their populations and exploding industries.

Friday Funday - Amazing and hugely creative breakdancing.
Wow, this is impressive, some really intersting, creative dancing. I don't know whether this should be classed as breakdancing or not, it seems to trancend that term.

How come I never knew that Nirvana's "Come As You Are" and "Eighties" by Killing Joke were so similar?
Nirvana, a hugely influential band and obviously one of the classics of the Grunge era (Nevermind is 19 years old now!!! It's as old now as Woodstock was when it was released). Killing Joke, a hugely underrated influence on industrial metal, and constant genre hoppers. Check out how similar these tracks are!
I discovered this today in a (great) new series on the history of "Alternative Nation" by one of my favourite sites, The Onion AV Club. Being a child of the Grunge generation this has the potential to be really interesting. Enjoy.
